Protein Hot Chocolate

As a kid, the amount of hot chocolate I would drink during the holidays was unlimited. Every day after school, I looked forward to having a hot cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and copious amounts of whipped cream.

I have a costco box of swiss miss packets sitting in my pantry that I had no clue what to do with, until I thought of making protein hot chocolate. I am not usually a fan of using protein powder to hit my protein goals and I truly do prefer a whole foods diet. I feel more satiated and my skin reacts better to eating whole foods and animal protein, but during the holidays, we're allowed to get a little crazy and have fun with our recipes. This is definitely one I'm going to have on repeat all winter.

I was genuinely scared about how this would come out considering it's microwaving protein powder and milk and I didn't know what texture would arise. But this recipe surpassed every expectation I had: it was frothy, it was creamy, and it tasted just like a Dunkin hot chocolate with half the calories, triple the protein, and significantly less carbs and fat.

MACROS:

CALORIES: 164 calories

PROTEIN: 21.5 grams

CARBOHYDRATES: 12.5 grams

FAT: 4.1 grams

INGREDIENTS:

- 1 serving or 240 milliliters milk of choice: I used unsweetened almond milk (30 cals per serving)

- 28 grams chocolate protein powder of choice (I used Legion Whey+ Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup)

- 10 grams of a swiss miss milk chocolate packet

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Pour your milk of choice in a mug and microwave for one minute.

  2. Add your 28 grams of protein powder and 10 grams of milk chocolate powder and froth until well combined.

  3. Microwave again for 30 seconds, mix and microwave for another 30 seconds or until desired temperature, and you're done!
